Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how the Little Genius mobile application ("the App", "we", "us") handles information. Little Genius is designed for young children and is intended to be set up and managed by a parent or guardian. We are committed to protecting children's privacy and complying with the Google Play Families Policy, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and the GDPR provisions applicable to children (GDPR-K).
1. Information stored on your device
When a parent creates a profile, the following is stored locally on the device only:
- Child's nickname — a display name you choose (a real name is not required).
- Child's age band — used to tailor learning content.
- An avatar — a picture the child picks to represent their profile.
- Learning progress & star rewards — quiz results and earned stars.
2. How this information is used
- To create and sign in to a local profile on the device.
- To save learning progress and reward stars between sessions.
- To show age-appropriate educational content.
3. Data we do NOT collect
- We do not transmit any personal data off the device — there is no user account, and no server of ours receives your information. (App updates are downloaded from our app-distribution provider, which involves no personal data.)
- We do not collect location, contacts, photos, microphone, or camera data.
- We do not use advertising identifiers or show ads.
- We do not use third-party analytics, crash reporting, or tracking SDKs.
- We do not create user profiles for advertising and do not sell or share data.
4. Permissions
The App requests only the following standard Android permissions. None is a sensitive permission (no microphone, camera, location, contacts, or storage access):
- Internet (INTERNET) — used only so a parent can open our legal and support pages in the device browser, to download app updates, and so your device's text-to-speech service can load voices when used as a fallback. The App's learning content works entirely offline, and the App never sends your personal information over the internet.
- Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS) — used only to show the optional local learning reminders described in Section 4a, if a parent turns them on. These reminders are created entirely on your device; nothing is sent to us or any third party.
- Run at startup (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED) — lets any reminders you have scheduled survive a device restart. It transmits no data.
- Vibrate (VIBRATE) — used for gentle haptic feedback during activities.
- Modify audio settings (MODIFY_AUDIO_SETTINGS) — a standard permission used by the audio player to manage volume and audio focus while a lesson is playing. It is not a sensitive permission and transmits no data.
The App does not request camera, microphone, location, contacts, or storage permissions. Audio pronunciation is played from professional voice recordings bundled inside the App (fully offline); on the rare occasion a phrase has no bundled recording, your device's own text-to-speech engine (for example Google or Samsung TTS) reads the on-screen educational text as a fallback — never your personal information. That engine is part of your device's operating system and is governed by your device manufacturer's privacy policy.
4a. Reminder notifications (optional)
A parent can optionally enable a daily learning reminder and a "come back" nudge. These notifications are scheduled locally on the device using its own clock — the App uses no push-notification service, sends no device token, and transmits nothing to us or any third party. Their content is fixed, kid-friendly text. You can turn them off at any time in the App's Settings or in your device's notification settings.
5. Children's privacy (COPPA & GDPR-K)
Little Genius is a child-directed app. Because no personal information ever leaves the device, the App does not "collect" personal information from children in the sense of transmitting it to us or any third party. Setting up a profile only asks for a nickname, an age band, and an avatar picture — no personal or sensitive information is requested, so no parental verification step is required at that point. Deleting a profile and its data does require a parent to pass a verification step (see Section 7), so a child cannot erase saved progress by mistake. A parent can view, change, or permanently delete all stored information at any time.
6. Data security
Profile data is kept in the device's app storage, and the session token that keeps a profile signed in is stored in the device's secure keystore. Because data never leaves the device, it is protected by your device's own security (lock screen, encryption).
7. Deleting your data
You can permanently delete a profile and all associated data at any time from Settings → Delete Account & Data inside the App. Uninstalling the App also removes all locally stored data. See our Data Deletion page for details.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected here with a new effective date.
